Portland Enhances Expertise
Published on: 10 October 2007
Leading South Coast business recovery firm Portland Business & Financial Solutions has underlined its commitment to client care with the addition of Paula Bailey.
Joining the firm's Poole operation as trainee administrator, Paula is relishing the fresh challenges her new role offers.
Individual Voluntary Arrangement proposals, bankruptcies, corporate liquidations and administrations may be a far cry from her former role as a sales ledger clerk for a bicycle distributor, but she is enjoying every second.
Paula says: 'I wanted something a bit different that was more exciting and this job certainly offers that. There is a lot to learn and it is going to keep me very busy. There is something different to do every day and I am really enjoying the variation in work. It is challenging and there is never a dull moment.'
Paula was also keen to join an organisation which invests in its employees and offers them opportunities for growth in their roles. She explains: 'It is nice to have the option to climb the ladder and I know that I can go on to take exams if I want to and work towards promotion.'
Dealing in such a sensitive area there is a need to approach clients with care and diplomacy; this is something Paula is learning early on: 'We are here to help people get out of a difficult financial situation and I get job satisfaction from being able to do just that.'
When not in the office Paula, who lives in Poole, is preparing for her wedding in May. She also enjoys socialising and spending time with her family and fiancé.
Portland is also congratulating Case Manager, Nicola Layland on becoming fully qualified with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
Nicola has passed her exams after 3 1/2 years of dedicated study, complemented by the practical experience gained from working at Portland, the south coast's largest independent business recovery firm. She graduated from Manchester University in July 2003 with a BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance, specialising in corporate finance, before joining Portland.
Nicola works within a small team on client cases, as well as dealing with the day-to-day running of the office. Working closely with Director, James Tickell, she aims to become an Insolvency Practitioner and will shortly begin studying for her JIEB (Joint Insolvency Examination Board).
