Carl Faulds, Managing Director
What is your nickname and why? I have never really had a proper nickname (that I have known about) but amongst my golf circle I am known as Carlos. I think this started when I was playing off a higher handicap, as I was winning lots of competitions.
Beer, Wine or other? Definitely red wine, usually by the gallon.
What would you be if you were not an insolvency practitioner? Broke!
Favourite Sport? Golf, but I also like to watch football, although with my team always winning it can get a bit tedious!
What is your favourite quote? I am known for mixing my metaphors, so it would probably be something like 'the proof of the pudding is in the heat of the kitchen'.
Who would play you in a film of your life? Al Pacino would be a hot favourite, or currently Mr Blobby!
What is your favourite movie line? 'Bond, James Bond' - a simple classic that just gets better and better!
If you could take one luxury item to a desert island, what would it be? A Sunseeker.
What qualities do you think you bring to Portland? A passion for what we do and a frustration with anything not done properly, along with an ability to spot the obvious!
What's your prediction for the next 12 months?
I would expect that we will be busy, which sounds like a good thing, but the truth is that it can be hard to create positive outcomes in such a difficult environment so that makes the work much harder. If unemployment goes up by 1 million as predicted, that is 1 million families who will struggle financially and for a developed country in 2009 that is a very sad state of affairs.
My general advice to anyone who is affected or likely to be affected (which means nearly everyone), is to grasp the nettle and do everything possible to protect their cashflow. Take advice from reputable experts as there is plenty of help available, and most of all remember to enjoy the most important things in life, such as friends and family.
